It was not until early 1960's that Baracoa became accessible to rest of Cuba. This area was cut off from the rest of Cuba by a range of Mountains.
It is said that Christopher Columbus first landed in this area. The lush green vegetation and palm trees make it an ideal setting for those who want a few days of peace and quiet. The surrounding rainforests and rivers are largely untouched and great for touring around. Also to enjoy is the Baracoa cuisine, which is supposed to be one of the best outside of Havana.
