Cigar and Rum Tour
Cuba is renowned for the fine quality of its cigars and its rum - and no one appreciated them more than it's favourite adopted son, Ernest Hemingway. On this exclusive seven-day tour you will sample the very best Cuban cigars, the finest rum and tread in the footsteps of "Papa" Hemingway, as you visit his house, eat at his favourite restaurant, experience the thrills of big-game fishing and finally relax with a mojito, his favourite cocktail. Travelling from Havana to the Vinales Valley, you will see tobacco plantations, tropical jungle, and the extraordinary limestone "mogotes", as well as spending a day on the island paradise of Cayo Levisa.
Day 1: Welcome to Havana From Havana Airport, private transfer to the Florida Hotel, one of Cuba's premier hotels in the heart of the old city.
Day 2: Colonial Havana and Hemingway The best introduction to the unique culture of Cuba has to begin with a walking tour of Old Havana. This colonial jewel remains practically unchanged since the Cuban Revolution, 50 years ago, and you'll have the opportunity to visit Hemingway's old room at the Hotel Ambos Mundos, where he wrote the opening chapters of "For Whom the Bell Tolls". At lunch at the cigar-lover's dream hotel, Conde de Villanueva, you'll see a demonstration of cigar rolling and even learn to roll one yourself. Spend the afternoon riding around town in a classic American 50's car before cocktails at the celebrated Floridita Bar and dinner at your hotel.
Day 3: Scenery of Vinales Vally and the Pinar Rum Factory En route to the Vinales Valley, you'll stop at a traditional tobacco plantation to learn about growing and curing tobacco and to sample the excellent local cigars. Then the tobacco plantations give way to the spectacular scenery of the limestone mountains and tropical vegetations of the Vinales Valley. Rural farms with thatched roofs, oxen ploughing the fields and picturesque villages make this one of Cuba's most beautiful country settings. After lunch you'll tour a cigar factory and a rum factory, before dining at La Ermita Hotel in Vinales, where you will spend the night.
Day 4: An island paradise - Cayo Levisa To Cayo Levisa by yacht, where you'll discover a natural paradise, unspoilt by tourism or development. The white sandy beaches and turquoise waters are irresistible enough, but beneath the waves lies one of the world's largest corsal reefs, home to more than 500 species of fish and 200 types of sponge. Spend the whole day relaxing - sunbathing, swimming, diving - on this tropical jewel, before returning to Vinales for dinner at your hotel.
Day 5: Rum tasting and a puff of smoke Return to Havana in the morning and check back into the Florida Hotel for lunch. In the afternoon you'll enjoy a private tour of a famous cigar factory, followed by a visit to the famous Havana Club Rum Museum, complete with a rum tasting. Then it's free time in Havana until dinner at the hotel.
Day 6: Your Journey Home After breakfast in your hotel, a private car will transfer to Havana Airport to begin your journey home.
Extended stays and tailor-made options can be arranged.
